Ms. Rafat has over three decades of rich experience in industry and academics. She has previously headed the Finance and Accounting function at Intergraph Consulting Private Ltd, Hyderabad. She has trained and consulted professionals (corporate executives, directors and top management, women entrepreneurs, bankers, and IAS officers) on a vast array of topics, including corporate finance, corporate governance practices, strategic and risk management aspects of banking, sustainable business models, and public-private partnerships.

She has been a visiting faculty at the Indian School of Business, Mahindra University, NMIMS Hyderabad, and S P Jain Dubai Campus. She has also published several articles in the areas of capital markets and the financial services industry in India.
